Ronaldo walks closer to the next record

MADRID: Cristiano Ronaldo has already broken a record in this year's Champions League, but against Juventus, in a quarterback comeback Wednesday he may be close to struggling to beat his bigger milestone.

Ronaldo's 3: 0 victory at Real Madrid last week secured that he overcame the performance of Ruud van Nistelrooy by scoring in 10 consecutive world championship matches.

Even the Portuguese have only three goals that can not be achieved within a single European campaign, suggesting that Ronaldo, at the age of 33, may even be the best versions.

His 14 goals so far have reached nine matches and doubled against APOEL, Borussia Dortmund, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus.

It means that it is the third most productive Ronald Champions League, which is already showing and Real is almost certain to reach the semifinals, is likely to end here.

When in the 2015-16 tournament he placed 16 goals and his best personal from 17 in 2013-14, both Real were crowned champions.

"Cristiano is Cristiano, it has always been so," said coach Zinedine Zidane when Ronaldo opened the scoring against Atletico Madrid on Sunday.

"There is no other player in the team who would score as he does."

There is no doubt that Ronaldo's game is now more effective, and therefore more focused on goals than it ever was.

To maintain your physical condition and energy, it receives fewer touch and covers less space. Previous touchs and spaces he finds are aimed at creating the greatest chance of hitting the network.

Even the Zidane system is suitable for this predator Ronaldo to place in the middle of 4-4-2, Karim Benzema playing the supporting role and wing players who were commissioned to deliver the box to the box.

When Ronaldo fought eight meters against the Atletic, it was a simple Gareth Bale backboard that he gave him.

In this form, Ronaldo could terrorize the goalkeeper a few years later.

Zidane withdrew his star player in the 64th minute last weekend despite the fact that the match was gently balanced to 1-1 after Antoine Griezmann's equalizer.

Although Ronaldo is leaving in the Madride derby almost without any protest, it is a measure of how the Champions League is quite comprehensive for Los Blancos.

"He's intelligent," Zidane said of Ronaldo. "There are times when he does not play and where he does, he needs it, he knows it and he is better every day."

Luka Modric and Karim Benzema were also dropped from the starting lineup in Santiago Bernabeu, while Bale played 90 minutes, the Welshman pointer is set for another European holiday in the middle of the week.

Bale's first choice is still to get back behind Zidane and then stay in Real this summer, but his coach shows a bit of a softening sign. Zidane made three rounds last week in Turin, but Bale stayed rooted on the bench.

If Real has one that has not been done in 24 Champions League games, Juve will need four.

"We do not get to each other and go to Madrid with the desire to have a good race. You never know in football and in life," Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini said after Saturday's win in Benevento.

"The game is long, and therefore we need a certain balance, but it will also have a bit of a healthy madness from all."
